I always feel blessed to be living in Southern California. We get to see a lot of cool exhibits and shows from franchises to music artists from Japan. Two official Pokemon exhibits took place recently in Southern California. Pokemon is one of the biggest franchises out of Japan. It originated as a game released on the Game Boy in 1996. In 1998 Pokemon was imported globally and to this day continues to still be very popular with all ages!

Pikachu
The first Pokemon exhibit I went to was located at Orange County Museum of Art that featured artist Daniel Arsham who is an American best known for his collection of Future Relics, which evolved from his concept of fictional archaeology. His Future Relics are designs and sculptures that are meant to represent unique relics of the present. He had an official collaboration with Pokemon. I really felt like I was looking at old relics that could have been found in caves just like the Pokemon games.

The second Pokemon art exhibit POKEMON X KOGEI was located at the Japan House in Hollywood. This exhibit featured twenty of Japan’s most accomplished craft artists and focused on traditional Japanese craft. This was really a unique exhibit between the video game world and some of Japan’s most talented craft artists.

Charizard
It’s really amazing to see so many people come out to these exhibits and continue to love Pokemon after all these years. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Pokemon and pop culture from Japan!
