The Tiny Pharmacy Aisle
If you walk into an American pharmacy in Torrance or LA, the eye drop selection is usually pretty boring. You will find maybe five or six basic bottles meant to treat severe redness or allergies, locked behind a plastic anti-theft case.

The Japanese Wall of Tears
Walk into a Japanese drugstore, and you will face a literal wall of “Megusuri” (Eye Drops). There are dozens, if not hundreds, of different brightly colored boxes. In Japan, eye drops aren’t just for medical emergencies; they are a daily lifestyle and refreshment product.

The Menthol Shock
The biggest shock for foreigners is the “Cool” sensation. Many Japanese eye drops contain intense levels of menthol! The boxes are ranked by “cooling levels” from 1 to 10. Dropping a level 10 into your eye feels like splashing your eyeball with an arctic glacier. It instantly wakes you up during a long day of screen work.

Hyper-Specific Formulas
The targeting is incredibly specific. There are eye drops formulated strictly for people wearing colored contact lenses, drops that claim to protect your eyes from smartphone blue light, and even premium, anti-aging eye drops packed with vitamins.
Anime Collaborations
Because it is a massive, competitive market, pharmaceutical companies frequently release limited-edition anime collaborations. Finding bottles shaped like Evangelion mechs or Sailor Moon compacts is totally normal. They are cheap, wild, and make the absolute perfect, quirky souvenir to bring back home!
