As activities enjoyed in nature and isolation from densely populated cities are gaining the spotlight, “glamping,” a type of glamorous, resort-style camping that allows beginners to easily enjoy the great outdoors, has been garnering increasing attention. Here are four of our recommendations in the Kansai area, where new glamping facilities have been opening up one after another.
.
1. GRAN CAMPING PALM GARDEN MAISHIMA by WBF

Located in the Osaka Bay area, this is the first glamping facility that opened in the city of Osaka. In the Miami-inspired facility is an array of mobile homes and stylish, silver-bodied airstream motorhomes imported from the US. Lounge in the resort-like atmosphere as you watch one of “Japan’s Top 100 Sunsets” and enjoy some BBQ while looking out over the ocean. Its location in Osaka City makes it easily accessible as well.
Address: 2-3-57 Hokkoryokuchi, Konohana-ku, Osaka City, Osaka
Access: 15 min by bus from Cosmosquare Sta. (Metro)

.
2. Glamping Resort Awaji
This glamping facility, known for its colorful, dome-shaped tents, is the first of its kind on Awaji Island. A luxurious ambiance pervades the area surrounded by the azure ocean and sky. The “Cafe & Bar Awaji,” a restaurant that can only be accessed by facility guests, offers local menu items that use ingredients such as Awaji Island milk, as well as the free vegetable service “Island Vegetable Marche.” The vegetables can be used during the evening BBQ. Glamping Resort Awaji offers a glamping experience abundant with nature and food that can only be enjoyed on Awaji Island.
Address: 2604 Iwaya, Awaji City, Hyogo
Access: 1 hour by bus from Kobe-Sannomiya Sta. (Hankyu, Hanshin)

.
3. SHIOSAI TERRACE PREMIUM GLAMPING RESORT

This glamping facility is perched atop elevated ground overlooking the ocean of Nanki Shirahama, one of the finest resort areas in the Kansai region. The deck space is home to a total of 10 dome-shaped tents, each with its own designated observation space and BBQ area. Guests can savor a lavish meal with locally grown vegetables and seafood, all while gazing at the view of breathtaking Shirahama.
At the adjoining “Fureai Hiroba” square, guests can also feed horses and experience horseback riding. Interaction with the animals is sure to soothe your soul.
Address: 2399-3 Katata, Shirahama Town, Nishimuro County, Wakayama
Access: 6 min by car from Shirahama Sta. (JR)
*Free shuttle service availabl (reservation needed)
.
4. glaminka SAYO

In the western part of Hyogo Prefecture is the fully renovated village of Sayo with a glamping facility that allows visitors to rent out an entire kominka-style house (traditional Japanese folk house). The four lodgings were built by teams of architects gathered from around Japan, and needless to say, they are stylish in design and bright with character.
The use of the spacious area is without limits. Relax in nature during the daytime, and gather around a bonfire while gazing up at the starry sky at nighttime. Without doubt guests will naturally forget all the hustle and bustle of city life.
Address: 568-1 Wakasu, Sayo Town, Sayo County, Hyogo
Access: 30 min by taxi from Sayo Sta. (JR)
