I had the honor of performing at the anime inspired ice cream shop Tsun Scoops which is located in the heart of Garden Grove, California. Tsun Scoops is a very unique ice cream parlor that has anime inspired ice cream and merchandise and is Vietnamese owned by Huy Pham! All of their ice cream have extremely punny names inspired by anime like my favorites Ramune 1/2 and Yuzu on ice. The shop also offers many Vegan flavors as well!

The ice cream shops name is inspired from the Japanese word Tsundere. A tsundere is a character usually depicted in anime that switches from being cold towards a love interest into being sweet. So just like Tsun Scoops ice cream at first it is cold but then it warms your heart with its yummy sweetness!

The event featured artists like myself and Flautist Acacia and performed anime classics for guests while they enjoyed their ice cream. You were able to RSVP for your own table which included a Tsundae package with ice cream, stickers, drinks, postcards, etc.

I performed my original songs Tokimeki City and Doki Doki Skyline which fit perfectly for the event. Both songs are inspired by retro anime aesthetics and loving Japanese words like Tokimeki which means your heart is throbbing with excitement and Doki Doki which is the sound of a beating heart. I also performed some classic city pop, anime and video game covers like Plastic Love from Mariya Takeuchi, Moonlight Densetsu from Sailor Moon, and Bubblegum K.K. from Animal Crossing.

You can also find out what flavors are available throughout the week. The inside of the shop has so many cute photo ops like this kabedon wall. Kabedon is a Japanese term for hitting the wall. “Kabe”means “wall” while “don” is a sound effect for hitting something. Usually in a romance anime it refers to a situation in which someone slams their hand against the wall, pinning the other person against the wall. The person who is pinning the person against the wall is usually doing it out of an intense emotion like jealousy or anger, but sometimes it’s just to flirt with said person.
