This past weekend I went to Little Tokyo to meet up with my friend Mizucat who is a Semirealism & Manga style artist from Germany.

She is an amazing artist and you can find her art/merch at Little Tokyo’s Popkiller and LA’s Vapor95 Store. She also has an online shop and website: https://www.mizucat.com
I initially thought I was going to be showing her around Little Tokyo. Especially because it is basically my second home where I have been involved with the Japanese American community for years now performing and participating in a wide range of Japanese festivals, Anime events, and charity shows.
But Mizucat knew of a secret and showed me a retro anime collectors heaven. I have been inside this shop many times before. The shop is a staple in Little Tokyo with a rich history and generations of Japanese Americans preserving that. But I had no idea while stepping into the shop that I was going to be witnessing the most amazing collection of Anime laserdiscs I have ever seen.
To be honest, I don’t have a laserdisc player and I don’t think she has one as well. But we were looking through every laserdisc trying to find our favorites to take home with us. The cover art is beautiful and could be used for aesthetic purposes much like vinyl covers. They had classics like Ranma, Bubblegum Crisis, Tenchi Muyo, and Ah My Goddess. I brought these two classics home with me.

After going on this anime adventure of childhood memories it made me realize that even when you think you have been everywhere in Little Tokyo there is still so much to uncover and see. Where is this Secret Retro Anime Collectors Heaven? If I told you it wouldn’t be a secret anymore, would it?
