The Okinawa Association of America (OAA)’s Young Okinawans of Southern California (YOSC) will host a lecture, “Ryūkyūan Spirituality and Lunar Events in the Spring,” on May 4th, at 4 PM.
Yukiko Akamine, a well-known lecturer in multiple universities, such as the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa International University, and Okinawa University, will deliver the presentation online from Okinawa. It will dive deep into Okinawan spirituality, ancestor worship, and the Lunar calendar, focusing on essential springtime traditions.
The presentation will be available online via Zoom and also in person at the OAA Center, Yamauchi building in Gardena. In-person attendees will have an opportunity to taste Chinbin, a traditional crepe-like dessert that is served during Yukka nu Hii (“fourth day,” during which dragon boat races are held).
