The Okinawa Association of America (OAA) in Gardena will host a “Multi-Author Talk & Readings” event celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This special event will feature writers of Ryūkyūan descent across North America.
The event will be separated into two parts. Part 1 will highlight Jami Nakamura Lin (Illinois) and Shō Yamagushiku (Victoria, British Columbia), sharing their latest works, “The Night Parade: A Speculative Memoir” and “Shima: Poems,” respectively. Furthermore, Part 2 will focus on “Chiburu: Anthology of Hawai‘i Okinawan Literature” with Lee A. Tonouchi, Mistee N. Uyehara, Daniel Akiyama, Delaina Thomas, Nicki Uechi, Ashley Nakanishi, and Grant Kagimoto (Hawai‘i). This event aims to inspire a more profound interest in Okinawa by showcasing creative authors.
This event will be held online via Zoom; all speakers will join from their respective locations. For a community member who does not have internet access, OAA offers in-person viewing at the OAA Center, Yamauchi building. Registration is Free! However, the gathering also serves as a fundraiser for the OAA’s Kamiya Library, which contains several English and Japanese-language books about Okinawan culture, history, and more.
Register to Zoom and find out more about Okinawa from many authors!
