The 3rd TAMUKEN CUP: A Pickleball Tournament Where Fun Comes First!

Pickleball is more than just a sport—it’s a way to connect, move, and enjoy the moment.

That spirit shines at the 3rd TAMUKEN CUP, a friendly tournament organized by beloved Japanese comedian and entrepreneur Kenji Tamura, known for bringing people together through laughter, food, and now, sports.

Tamura, originally from Osaka, rose to stardom in Japan with his signature fundoshi (traditional loincloth) look and energetic catchphrase “Cha~!” He’s known not only as a solo performer who carved out his own niche in comedy, but also as the owner of the popular yakiniku restaurant chain, Sumibi Yakiniku Tamura.

In recent years, Tamura has made Los Angeles his base, enthusiastically embracing new challenges through local events, YouTube content, and community outreach. His unique blend of comedic talent and entrepreneurial spirit makes him one of a kind—a figure who bridges Japanese culture and global engagement with style and heart.
This event is all about community, culture, and fun. The motto is proudly stated:

Open to both beginners and experienced players, the tournament welcomes participants from across Southern California, especially from the Japanese and Nikkei communities. Whether you’re playing or cheering, it’s a great way to enjoy some active fun while connecting with others who love the sport and Japanese culture.

Pickleball is simple to learn, low-impact, and suitable for all ages. If you’re new to it, paddles for beginners are available starting at just $10—so give it a try!

Don’t Miss the Food!

No great event is complete without great food—and at the TAMUKEN CUP, you’ll get to enjoy the best of it! Honda-ya, a beloved Japanese izakaya in Tustin and the official sponsor of this tournament, will have a food stall at the venue.

Founded in 1993, Honda-ya is one of the most well-known izakayas in Southern California. With over 300 menu items, including more than 50 types of yakitori skewers—featuring chicken, pork, beef, vegetables, and seafood—it’s a favorite among locals. The restaurant is usually packed during dinner hours, making this event a rare chance to enjoy their signature dishes without the wait.

On the day of the event, you can savor yakisoba, yakitori, handmade gyoza, cream soda, and more. Whether you’re a Honda-ya regular or have yet to experience their legendary flavors, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy Japanese street food in a fun outdoor setting.
