Over 140,000 Attended Asian American Expo, the Largest Chinese New Year Celebration in the U.S., Held in Pomona

The Asian American Expo was held at the Fairplex in Pomona on January 13 and 14. The event is considered one of the largest festivals in the U.S. to celebrate the Lunar New Year and attracts a large number of visitors every year. 142,000 people visited the 42nd edition of the event, making it a very lively event.

The venue was decorated with red lanterns symbolizing the good fortune of the Lunar New Year and dragon decorations, the Chinese zodiac sign of the year. The event featured a variety of entertainment, including stage performances, as well as food booths selling mainly Asian foods, booths selling goods and other items for shopping, a game corner, and many other booths.

The 42nd Asian American Expo, one of the largest festivals in the U.S. celebrating the Chinese New Year, attracted 142,000 visitors this year.

JapanUp! worked with a local Los Angeles restaurant to sell Hokkaido scallop products at the event’s food venue. These fresh scallops were imported from Hokkaido in the hope of spreading the word in the U.S. about Hokkaido scallops, which have been losing traction due to the suspension of imports of Japanese seafood by China since last year.

Using Hokkaido scallops, which have a rich flavor and outstandingly delicious thickness, JapanUp! sold corn butter scallops and scallop curry, and distributed 2,500 free tastings of sashimi scallops. In addition, Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant sold scallop skewers, Tokyo Yakisoba served yakisoba noodles topped with scallops, Hakata Izakaya HERO served scallop carpaccio, TAKOYAKI TANOTA served takoyaki and fried scallops, and Shake Ramen was serving shake ramen noodles with raw scallops. Many other scallop-based dishes were on the menu, and many foodies enjoyed the taste of Hokkaido scallops.
