Happy New Year! It’s the year of the rabbit! And it’s not a coincidence that many Sailor Moon releases like a movie and vinyl record will be coming out this year to celebrate. Usagi is rabbit in Japanese. And Sailor Moon’s name Tsukino Usagi is a play on words for Tsuki no Usagi (月のうさぎ), meaning “Rabbit of the Moon” which comes from a folktale about a rabbit that is said to reside on the Moon. That is also why you see cute little bunnies and moons on Sailor Moon’s bed sheets.
The new Sailor Moon movie “Sailor Moon Cosmos” was announced at the Sailor Moon Museum in Japan and the movie will be released this Summer. Sailor Moon Cosmos is a two part movie for the final arc of the Sailor Moon manga. It is a direct sequel to Sailor Moon Eternal.
I’m always on the hunt for Sailor Moon goods as you can see in these photos. So when the Sailor Moon Vinyl record was announced I immediately pre-ordered. To celebrate 30 years of the iconic shoujo anime Sailor Moon, King Records is releasing a double LP. The two-disc set comes in pink and includes music from the 90s Anime and Sailor Moon Crystal series.

For me, every year is the year of Usagi. I am always on the search for new Sailor Moon merchandise to add to my collection. I will also continue to sing the Sailor Moon theme song at my concerts. And I’m excited to announce that I will be releasing a different version of the theme song this year. I’m really looking forward to all the Sailor Moon we will have this year. I also wanted to say that I’m honored to continue to write for JapanUp. Thank you to all of you who continue to read my articles. Let’s have a fun year of Usagi together!
